Dear Del Mar Families:

Thank you to the many of you who have completed the Parent Survey sent by the district office.  Your feedback is always appreciated and helps guide us in determining what best practices to continue as well as ways to improve our program for students.

With regard to related School Site Council business, I wish to acknowledge the following parents who have served as SSC representatives for the past two years: Melissa Prentis, Kim Logie, Kelly Scannell, and Patricia Karasoff Lloyd.  Thank you for your contributions and service!  The School Site Council consists of parents, teachers, students and administration that meet together monthly to discuss the School Site Plan and give input on new programs and initiatives.  If you are interested in serving as a SSC parent representative for the next two-year term, please submit a letter of interest to me by May 29.

Attention Sixth Grade Families: We must receive all required medical records as we prepare for next school year.  Please provide us with documentation that your child has a recent Tdap booster shot.  We cannot make class schedules or admit students who are out of compliance. See attached.

Parent Education:  Having just completed our series of 7/8th grade Being Adept lessons on Drug and Alcohol use, it is timely to forward a recent article on this topic that Principal Sondheim sent his Redwood High School parents.  Follow this link to stay informed and be best equipped to guide your child, especially our soon-to-be Del Mar alums and high school students. http://digital.marinmagazine.com/marinmagazine/201305/?pg=52&pm=2&u1=friend#pg53

Reminder: Final Parent Ed meeting of the year is Thursday, May 23 at 8:30am in the Information Media Center. Come meet with Dr.’s Allan and Alan (Gold and Vann Gardner) and fellow parents to discuss Changes and Transitions in the Middle and Soon to Be High School Years.

This Fortnight’s Photo Gallery features pictures from: Chess Club, 6th grade aikido, and Yosemite Institute outdoor education trip.

PS: Regarding the Chess Club, congratulations to Scott McCrae, Jeremy Goldwasser, Matt Stecklow, Ladia Jirasek, Dan Yamada, Brandon Trahms and James Schaffer for their wonderful accomplishments: Second and sixth place overall at the CalChess Super State Junior High Championship.

Regards,

Alan
