Dear Del Mar Families:
Welcome back! We are off and running toward what promises to be an exciting year. Teachers are inspired; students are eager, kind and friendly; and I am proud to step into my role as Interim Principal at Del Mar.
I took the opportunity to meet with all 6th grade classes this week. When asked, students rated their first few days of middle school between a "7" and a "10." They are comfortable with lockers and schedules, love their teachers and friends, and perhaps most importantly, feel confident that they know where to go and what to do to solve problems as they arise.
Kudos to our seventh and eighth grade students for helping set a positive tone at the onset of the year. With regard to our three "key behaviors," they have modeled kindness and respect, gotten to class on time, and dressed modestly and appropriately. These provide a basic foundation for a safe, respectful, engaged learning environment where all students will thrive. (More later, on our vision of the Del Mar student/graduate and what students are doing in class to demonstrate all the great things they have accomplished and learned…)
Please join me this Friday at 8:30 AM in the library for my Principal's Tea. This is an opportunity to welcome all new families to our Del Mar community. Returning families are welcome, too. New Superintendent, Dr. Steve Herzog and Tanya Pearson, our new Assistant Principal will be there to meet and greet you as well.
Upcoming events: I look forward to seeing you, too, at the following two school events: Laptop Rollout evening is Tuesday, September 14 for 7/8th grade families and Wednesday, September 15 for 6th grade families. Del Mar's Back-to-School Night is Thursday, September 23. See the calendar on our school website for more specific information.
Reminder: If you have not already done so, please remember to complete your child's info-snap information on-line. Call the office with any questions.
Communication: Encourage your child to speak directly with teachers and advisors regarding any specific questions, concerns, and ideas he/she may have. Teachers are eager and willing to listen and help. Don't hesitate to follow up by contacting your child's teacher/advisor directly. Teachers' contact information can be found on our website, listed by grade level teams. I, too, am always available to speak with you and look forward to the opportunity of working together with you this year.
Please read on, below, for Foundation and PTA News!
Regards,
